Private eye Jussi Vares finds two dead bodies in a remote house; one of the victims is mutilated, like in a ritual murder case. A year later, Vares is hired to investigate the case. He finds clues that confirm the old rumor; the underworld of the Finnish west coast is controlled by an invisible godfather; The Sheriff – a man that no one knows and no one is supposed to talk about. Vares gets dangerously close to the “Court” – a secret gentlemen’s club, an executive of The Sheriff. To the members of the Court, human life is cheap.
