Finnkino now belongs to AMC

On March 21st 2017, the European Commission’s competition authority approved a deal where AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. purchased the Nordic Cinema Group, which Finnkino was a part of.

On the 21st of March 2017, the European Commission’s competition authority approved a deal where AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. purchased the Nordic Cinema Group, the leading cinema group in the Nordic and Baltic countries, which Finnkino was a part of. This purchase also included the British Bridgepoint and the Swedish Bonnier Group.

 

This strengthened acquisition supports Finnkino’s continued growth goals, enhances AMC’s geographic diversity and provides us with future growth opportunities in the European market. “We are interested in the Nordic theater chains because they are well taken care of, modern and fast growing. We are looking forward to satisfying our European movie fans with new, innovative theater experiences” says Adam Aron, the CEO and Chairman of the Board for AMC.

 

As a results of the Nordic and Baltic region cinemas, AMC will further strengthen its position as the company who owns the most theatres and screens in the world. AMC now operates over 1000 theaters and 11000 screens in 15 countries. AMC is the market leader is the USA, Europe and worldwide.

 

Nordic Cinema Group's cinema chains will continue to operate under their local brands, meaning in Finland Finnkino will stay as Finnkino. Finnkino is now the subsidiary of the Odeon Cinema Group in London.
